Australia's Native Citrus Powerhouse

Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) is a rainforest tree native to subtropical Queensland, used by Indigenous Australians for generations. Its leaves carry one of the highest natural citral concentrations of any plant — the compound behind its intensely lemon fragrance, brighter than lemon itself.

Our Lemon Myrtle castile soap is a natural, multipurpose cleaner built around this single native botanical: intensely lemony, rich in natural citral, and unmistakably Australian. The result is a castile soap that doesn't just clean — it refreshes, energises, and fills your home with the scent of the Australian rainforest.

A Multipurpose Natural Cleaner for the Whole Home

One bottle of Lemon Myrtle castile soap replaces a cupboard full of single-use cleaning products:

Personal care: hand and body wash, shower gel, facial cleanser (diluted), clarifying shampoo, bubble bath

Household cleaning: kitchen surface cleaner, bathroom cleaner, floor cleaner, all-purpose spray, streak-free glass and mirror cleaner

Laundry & dishes: natural laundry detergent, eco-friendly dish soap, hand-washing delicates

Also great for: pet washing (avoid eyes and face), car washing, outdoor furniture, vegetable wash (properly diluted)

Why Choose Lemon Myrtle

  • Intensely lemony — more citrus aroma than actual lemons
  • Rich in citral — the natural compound behind its bright lemon fragrance, traditionally valued in Australian native botanicals
  • Uplifting — a fresh, clean scent that awakens the senses
  • Proudly Australian — a native botanical used for thousands of years
  • Pure essential oil — no synthetic fragrance

Natural Ingredients, No Nasties

We start with time-honoured saponified oils — olive, coconut, sunflower seed, and castor — then add pure Australian Lemon Myrtle essential oil. No synthetic fragrance, no harsh sulfates, no unnecessary additives.

Full ingredients (INCI): Aqua, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Potassium Hydroxide*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Backhousia Citriodora (Lemon Myrtle) Leaf Oil, Sodium Chloride.

*Does not remain in the final product. Contains naturally occurring Citral from the essential oil.

How to Use Lemon Myrtle Castile Soap

  • Body & hair: use undiluted or slightly diluted — apply to wet skin or hair, lather, rinse
  • Hands: 1 tbsp per 250ml water in a foaming dispenser
  • Household cleaning: dilute 1:10 for general surfaces, 1:20 for floors
  • Dishes: a squirt directly on dishes, or diluted in the sink
  • Laundry: ¼–⅓ cup per wash

It's concentrated, so a little goes further than you'd expect — dilute for the task at hand.

Make It Yours

Boost the citrus with a few extra drops, or blend Lemon Myrtle with lavender for a calming citrus note, eucalyptus for a fresher lift, or tea tree for an extra fresh, medicinal edge. See our recipes for ideas on turning this into foaming hand soap, body wash, kitchen spray, bubble bath, or clarifying shampoo.

The Australian Connection

Lemon Myrtle grows naturally in the subtropical rainforests of Queensland and northern New South Wales, and has been used by Indigenous Australians for thousands of years. It's now sustainably cultivated in Australian plantations, supporting local growers. Made in regional Victoria with this native essential oil, it's castile soap that's authentically Australian from start to finish.

Why Castile Soap Is the Original Eco-Friendly Cleaner

True castile soap has been made the same way for centuries: pure vegetable oils, saponified into a gentle, effective soap. No petroleum products, no synthetic detergents, no harsh sulfates — just biodegradable, concentrated, genuinely effective cleaning.

The Details

100% vegan and cruelty-free. Australian made, in regional Victoria, using native botanicals. Biodegradable and safe for waterways and septic systems. Free from synthetic fragrances, colours, and preservatives.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — Lemon Myrtle oil is light-sensitive, so keeping the bottle capped preserves both scent and potency. Use within 12 months of opening.
